Ancient eyes

One day it was just after dawn
I seen you just outside my doorstep
Your big ancient eyes still young in that moment
Holding secrets that I will once bestow
These gifts we had to share
Two young spirits
I had to go about my day
not wanting to let you go
My mother said you will be there when I return
I seen you watch me go as we rounded the bend
Perhaps it was then when our friendship began
Or maybe it was something eternal that I could not understand
I was sure you came from a vision
I think it was something that was forever
You, so strong and vibrant
Agile and fast
The energy of a true warrior

Sometimes I had vision of us in another world
During my dark times where I knew love only through you
I know there it was always you and I
and when the sun would set
we would battle the darkness until he risen once again
I protected you

Again the sun will rise and its radiant beams would shine down upon us
I seen a glimmer in your warm soft black coat
Like sparkling diamonds in the night sky
We would visit your favorite places
Bring back your favorite mint leaves
become one with the earth in the dirt
Then I would laugh at your silly escapades

But now the sun sets again.. I fear this time you will not arise from the darkness
Eternity waits for us both but this time I will have to meet you there
I hate to see you in pain my friend
You're a sweet soft gentle creature
and always my best friend forever.

I'll remember the day when we peered into each others eyes
Those ancient eyes
